Don’t wait days for a doctor’s appointment. Get professional clinical assessments and targeted prescription treatments for sinus issues, impetigo, and infected bites under the NHS Pharmacy First scheme.
Yes. Under the NHS Pharmacy First initiative, the independent prescribing team at Levis Pharmacy can fully evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute sinusitis, impetigo, and infected insect bites right here in Newton Heath.
Instead of dealing with persistent facial pain or worrying about spreading a highly contagious skin rash while waiting for a GP callback, you can walk straight into our private consultation rooms. Our clinical pharmacists will review your medical history, inspect the affected area, and supply targeted treatments—including prescription nasal sprays, topical antibiotic creams, or oral antibiotics—if a bacterial infection is confirmed.
Age Eligibility: Adults and children aged 12 years and over.
Ideal For: Patients experiencing severe facial pain, pressure around the eyes and forehead, a completely blocked nose, and a reduced sense of smell lasting more than 10 days.
Clinical Treatment: Supply of prescription-strength steroid nasal sprays or oral antibiotics to reduce deep-tissue inflammation and clear the infection.
Age Eligibility: Adults and children aged 1 year and over.
Ideal For: The rapid management of highly contagious red sores or blisters that burst and leave crusty, golden-brown patches, commonly appearing around the mouth and nose.
Clinical Treatment: Immediate supply of targeted antiseptic or antibiotic creams (and oral antibiotics if widespread) to halt the spread quickly.
Age Eligibility: Adults and children aged 1 year and over.
Ideal For: Midges, mosquitoes, horseflies, or tick bites that have become progressively redder, increasingly swollen, hot to the touch, or painful several days after the initial sting.
Clinical Treatment: Professional screening to differentiate between normal allergic inflation and a secondary bacterial infection, with supply of oral antibiotics when necessary.

Discuss your symptoms and have your skin or sinus pathways thoroughly examined in a private, sanitized room.
If eligible, walk out with your prescribed course of treatment immediately. If your symptoms require a broader look, we provide a direct, seamless referral to your GP.
Under strict NHS guidelines, acute sinusitis is usually viral during the first several days. Our pharmacists can provide prescription-only treatments if your symptoms have lasted for 10 days or more without improvement, or if your symptoms suddenly worsen significantly after starting to get better ("double sickening").
Yes. Our pharmacists are thoroughly trained to assess children aged 1 year and older for impetigo. Because the infection spreads incredibly quickly through schools and nurseries, getting a rapid diagnosis and topical antibiotic treatment at the pharmacy helps keep your child safe and allows them to return to regular activities much sooner.
The diagnostic assessment is entirely free of charge. If the pharmacist dispenses an antibiotic cream, oral antibiotic, or medical nasal spray, you will only pay the standard NHS prescription levy. If you or your children qualify for free NHS prescriptions, the medication is entirely free.
